The Algarve's Climate ( Weather )

Algarve Weather

Throughout the year the South of Portugal region enjoys the best heliothermic conditions in all of Europe.

It is the most climatically favoured region of Portugal and one of the most stable in the world. Characterised by scarce periods of rain (it normally rains between November and March) and by long sunshine hours (highest values in Europe), the Algarve region is really blessed with perfect physical conditions for tourism.

During the summer months temperatures are quite high, which favours "Beach Tourism". The Algarve is a veritable paradise for bathers.

It is a region edged with fine white sand along the miles of coastline and by a calm sea with water temperatures in the region of 21/22°C in the summer period.

Apart from during the summer months, the Algarve's climate is characterised by mild temperatures, which, together with a high sun index and low rain levels, allow tourism throughout the year.

It's the Algarve's moderate and gentle climate that permits tourism during the winter (both holidays for the elderly and sporting holidays). Due to its geographic relief and position the Algarve is influenced climatically as much by the European continent as by North Africa, the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean weather.

The maximum temperatures in the Region vary, throughout the year, between 15 and 31°C and the temperature does not drop below zero in the winter. This is why tourists from Northern European countries increasingly seek out the Algarve, where they can enjoy hours of mild sunshine.
